Mayflower Timeline

  1. The Pilgrims first left England to live in Holland.
  2. The Pilgrims went back to England to gather supplies for their journey to the New World
  3. On September 6, 1620 the Mayflower ship set sail across the Atlantic Ocean to reach the New World.
  4. The Pilgrims Land at Provinceton Harbor at the end of Cape Cod

Mayflower Plymouth harborThe Mayflower had 102 passengers and 30 crew members. The ship was crowded. Conditions on the ship were terrible. There was no bathrooms. People were seasick. It took the Mayflower 9 1/2 weeks to cross the Atlantic to the New World.  When they arrived in Provinceton Harbor, the pilgrims named the landing area Plymouth.

While visiting Plymouth area, tour the following historic sites:

Plimoth Plantation is a recreation of the 1627 Pilgrim community. This is a living history exhibit where interpreters are in period costume.

Mayflower II is on the Harbor at the State Pier in Plymouth. It is a full scale replica of the ship Mayflower.

John Alden House - home of Mayflower passengers, John and Pricilla Alden, handicap accessible.

Mayflower Society Museum - Plymouth, 1754 house and formal garden.

Pilgrim Hall Museum - Plymouth - Pilgrim and Native American artifacts.

Plymouth Rock - landing place of the Pilgrims in 1620.

Richard Sparrow House - built 1640 - oldest surviving house in Plymouth.

1749 Courthouse - Plymouth - artifacts from early Plymouth.

1749 Spooner house - original furnishings.
